It is likely no surprise to you that God has wired women and men differently. We all recognize some of these differences, but others often hide in plain sight. Shaunti Feldhahn, a nationally syndicated newspaper columnist, author and speaker recently wrote a fantastic book, For Women Only: What You Need to Know About the Inner Lives of Men. In it, she recounts the surprising truths she learned about men after interviewing more than one thousand of them. Not long ago, I had the opportunity to interview Shaunti for our radio broadcast, HomeWord with Jim Burns. In our discussion, we spoke about ten things guys wish women knew about men. I think you’ll find these ten things fascinating! Even more, I believe that in understanding these issues, you’ll be equipped to lead your marriage to a better place!
1. Men would rather feel unloved than inadequate and disrespected. Husbands need to know that their wives respect them both privately and publicly. Men thrive when they know that their wives trust them, admire them, and believe in them. Shaunti Feldhahn’s research indicated that men would rather sense the loss of loving feelings from their wives than to be disrespected by them.
2. A man’s anger is often a response to feeling disrespected by his wife. When a husband becomes angry with his wife, he may not come out and say, “You’re disrespecting me!” But, there is a good likelihood that he is feeling stung by something his wife has done which he considers disrespectful and humiliating. EVICTING GOD Militant atheists are intent on evicting God from the public square in America.
The latest development is a suit filed by Michael Newdow against Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, Pastor Rick Warren, and several others who will be participating in the upcoming Presidential inaugural ceremonies. Newdow contends that the inauguration plans violate the Establishment and Free Exercise clauses of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
Newdow complains that when Chief Justice Roberts administers the Oath of Office to President-Elect Obama and closes with the traditional "so help me God," he will be giving impermissible government sanction to the Almighty in violation of the Constitution. Newdow also argues that the opening prayer and closing benediction, offered by Rev. Warren and Rev. Joe Lowery, constitute an impermissible establishment of religion. Newdow believes that these practices discriminate against the free exercise of his atheist "religion." Read On

FOX SUES FEDS Officials from Fox Business are suing the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, complaining about the Fed’s failure to comply with the network’s data requests filed under the Freedom of Information Act. The network filed a FOIA request on November 10, 2008 to find out what financial institutions were receiving funds from the Fed between August 2007 and November 2008. Another FOIA request was made on November 18 for a list of financial institutions who were lent money between September and October 2008. Neither one has been answered. Fox News Executive Vice President Kevin Magee said in a statement, “As a news organization, we believe in the public's right to know and will continue in our quest to hold the government accountable for their actions on the allocation of the bailout funds.” Steven Mintz, Esq., of Mintz & Gold LLP, and legal counsel for the network added, "The government has power over possibly trillions of the taxpayer's money and the fact that they are denying requests for enhanced transparency on the distribution of those funds is appalling. Therefore, we have filed a complaint in federal court in New York and ask the Court to make the Fed provide the information sought by the journalists at FBN." Amanda Carpenter reporting. |

FEDERAL ASSISTANCE Larry Flynt, the publisher of Hustler magazine, and Joe Francis, the producer of "Girls Gone Wild" videos, recently said they were asking Congress for $5 billion in federal assistance, asserting the adult entertainment industry was among those hit "like a cold shower" by the recession. A twisted joke to most Americans, but the pornography industry in the United States and its devastating effect on individuals, marriages, families and workplaces is no laughing matter, according to Steve Siler, director of Music for the Soul (MFS), a Nashville-based Christian ministry that provides multimedia resources to promote the discussion and healing of life's most painful issues. "Pornographers continue to disregard the heartbreak and devastation they wreak on a daily basis," said Siler. "Then they take advantage of the economic misfortune of millions Americans in order to generate free publicity. I would call this act thoughtless, if it wasn't so calculated. Some have called it a joke. But to laugh and joke about this epidemic is hurtful and offensive." Read On |

Collin Edge of Morehead City was only 13 years old, but he's already experienced enough to know that there are kids who could use his help. He's seen them come through his front door. His parents have provided foster care for various children over the years and too often, he said, the children arrived at their home with little more than the clothes on their backs. "I remember how all the kids would come with nothing," he said. It's a memory that made an impression on Collin, and he has turned the experience into his Eagle Scout service project. Collin, was a rising eighth-grader at Morehead Middle School and a Life Scout in Troop 130, who collected supplies for children in foster care in Carteret County. Read On |

Sex Offender Wins Raffle — A convicted sex offender won a $500,000 Alaska raffle that
was a fundraiser for a nonprofit organization that helps victims of sexual abuse. Alec Ahsoak of Anchorage, 53, came forward Saturday to collect his prize. The state sex offender registry lists Ahsoak as convicted of two counts of sexual abuse of a minor in 1993 and one count in 2000. The raffle drawing was Friday night. State law says all games of chance must benefit a charity. The designated beneficiary for the half-million dollar raffle was Standing Together Against Rape, or STAR. Ahsoak says he plans to use the money to buy a home and to improve his life. He tells KTUU-TV he will donate $100,000 to STAR. |
